How to prepare
A few steps that make a real difference:
- Bring in or tie down patio furniture, trash cans and anything else the wind can carry.
- Stay away from downed power lines and report them to JCP&L and 911.
- Charge phones and power banks, and keep a flashlight, batteries and a few days of water and medications on hand.
- Check on older neighbors, relatives and anyone living alone.

Once it passes
Storm cleanup causes plenty of injuries of its own, so take it slowly.
- Don't drive around barricades or through standing water, and watch for downed wires hidden by debris.
- Report downed trees and blocked roads to your town's public works department or police non-emergency line.
- Photograph any damage before you clean up, for insurance.
- Check on neighbors who may need help, especially anyone older or living alone.
