Privacy Policy

The short version: no account, no ads, no analytics, no tracking, and we never sell data. Your town, saved places, plans and reminders stay on your phone. We only store two small things on our server, and only to run features: an anonymous ID with the places and events you save (so we can show "most saved" counts), and, if you turn on emergency alerts, your push token and home town.

Monmouth County Local Guide ("the app") is an independent app for residents of Monmouth County, New Jersey. This policy explains what the app collects, why, and your choices.

Information that stays on your device

Your chosen home town, saved (hearted) places, bookmarked events, saved plans, starred phone numbers and app settings.
Trash and recycling reminders, which are scheduled as local notifications on your phone.
Your location. If you allow location access, the app uses it on your phone only, to sort places and events by distance. Your location is never sent to our server or stored.

Information stored on our server

Our server is hosted on Cloudflare, which may briefly keep standard technical logs (such as IP addresses) to operate and protect the service.

What we do NOT collect

No account, name, email address, phone number or password.
No advertising identifiers, analytics SDKs or ad networks, and no tracking across other apps or websites.
No contacts, photos, health data, or reading of your calendar. (Adding an event opens your phone's own calendar screen; the app cannot read your calendar.)

Services the app connects to

To show live information, your phone requests data directly from public services, which receive your IP address as part of any internet request:

National Weather Service (weather.gov) for forecasts and alerts, and NOAA for tides and water temperature.
Expo, Apple and Google to deliver push notifications, if you turn them on.
News and event websites: headlines, images and links come from local outlets and official town sites. When you open a story or website, that site's own privacy policy applies.

How we use information

Only to run the features described above. We do not sell, rent or share your information, use it for advertising, or build a profile of you.

Your choices

Turn off emergency alerts in the app (Alerts screen or Settings) to delete your push token and town from our server.
Un-save places and events to remove them from the community counts.
Deny or revoke location, notifications or calendar access at any time in your phone's Settings. The app still works without them.
Deleting the app removes everything stored on your device.

Children

The app is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Not affiliated with any government

Monmouth County Local Guide is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the County of Monmouth or any municipality. Information comes from official town, county and business websites and may change. In an emergency, always call 911.

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date above.
